Objective

Children sit in a circle and listen for their fruit or grammar tense. When the person in the middle of the circle calls out their fruit or grammar tense, they must quickly run to find a seat.

This activity can be used to introduce children to different categories of fruits, fish, animals and so on. For intermediate to advance learners, you can introduce grammar (Past, Present, Future Tense ).

Instructions

1. Have the children sit in a circle, with a volunteer in the middle of the cirlce.

2. Give each child a category, including the player in the center of the circle:

Beginners: Colour or Fruit - Apple, Orange, Lemon etc.
Intermediate - Advance: Grammar - Past, Present, Future Tense

Make sure that everyone remembers who they are by asking the class: "All Apples, please raise your hands!" or "All Past Tense, put up your hands!"

3. The game begins when the center person calls out a type of fruit. Whichever fruit is called out, those players who are designated as that fruit and the person in the middle of the circle must stand up and run to change seats. There should be a new person left standing in the center.

For Intermediate - Advance learners, the person in the center of the circle can make up any sentence. Try to use all three tenses so that everyone gets a go. The group needs to listen and decide if it is a Past, Present or Future tense. If it is a present tense, all "present tense" students including the person in the middle, must change seats.
