Objective
In Fashion Statements, students discuss the various styles of fashion. They share about their own fasion statements, and report on their groups preferences and tastes.
Instructions
1. Begin by asking the class to define what they think the term "fashion statement" means.
- What does the term "fashion statement" refer to?
- How do people dress in your country?
- What "fashion statements" are they trying to make?
2. Write down the following list of how people like to dress up. You may want to give examples of a particular artist, actor or entertainer.
New age, grunge, punks, ravers, geeks, surfers, hip-hop, retro |
- Why do these people dress the way they do?
- What is the fashion statement behind each dress category?
3. Next divide the class into pairs or small groups. Allow learners to discuss these questions briefly and than choose a representative from each group to share what they had discussed.
- Who is the best dress person in class?
- What clothes do you like to wear?
- What is the most expensive clothing item you've ever brought?
- Where do you go shopping for your clothes?
- What is your fashion statement? Why?
- Which of the above fashion statement category do you fit into?
