Instructions

1. Use a calculator or ask a student in the class to do the sums on a piece of paper. Begin the game by asking students to write down the number of the month in which they were born (1 for January - 12 for December). This is an example for a 34 year old student who is born in July:

Procedure

  • Pick the number of a month
  • Multiply by 2
  • Add 5
  • Multiply by 50
  • Add their age
  • Subtract by 365
  • Add 115 to find the month and age
  • Example

  • 7
  • 7 x 2 = 14
  • 14 + 5 = 19
  • 19 x 50 = 950
  • 950 + 34 y.o = 984
  • 984 - 365 = 619
  • 619 + 115 = 734
  • 2. From the above example the total is 734. The students age (34 years old) is on the right, while the month the student is born on (July on the 7th month) is on the left. You can get the class to do the same calculation with their peers, the result is always 100% accurate provided they get your sums right.
