Materials: Cut out and distribute a copy of the Group Ice-breaker joke card for each learner.

Objective

This funny group ice-breaker is ideal for the first day of class. It can be played with groups of up to 20 learners.

Instructions

1. Explain that the objective of the group ice-breaker activity is to have fun and to get to know each other. Distribute the group ice-breaker worksheet.

2. Give learners a few minutes to practice telling their jokes (as quietly as they can).

3. Learners must now walk around the class, introducing themselves to 8 other learners and telling them their jokes. After telling their jokes, learners must write down the name of the other person on the back of their card and give each other a score out of 10.

4. After learners have met and spoken to 8 other learners, ask 2 - 3 learners to introduce themselves, and to say who they thought told the funniest joke. You can also ask the student to see if they remembered the joke, or ask the student who told the joke to re-tell it to the class again.
