Materials: Distribute Reading Comprehension Worksheet A and Fill-in-the-Gap Worksheet B

Objective

In this reading comprehension activity, students work together to fill-in-the-missing gaps for worksheet B . Student A is given the reading comprehension worksheet which contains the full article. Student B has the same article, but with some missing words and sentences. Both partners work together to ask and answer basic questions in order to fill in the missing gaps.

Instructions

1. Divide the class into pairs and distribute worksheets A and B. Give learners 2-3 minutes to read through and discuss their worksheets.

2. Next, demonstrate to your students how to ask questions for the missing gaps. For beginners, you may want to explain the following language functions:

What? - asking for general information.
Where? - asking about places and locations.
When? - finding out about time.
Why? - asking for reason and meaning.
Who? - finding out about people.
How long? How much? How many ... finding out about time and distance, cost and quantity.

3. When learners have finished writing down their questions, put them to work with a new partner. Make sure that "Student A" is partnered with a "Student B".

4. Ask learners to fill in the missing gap with their questions.
