Objective
In this efl/esl activity, students listen and relate with the teacher's life achievements. Afterwards, students take turns writing their own life achievements.
Instructions
1. Before class, prepare between 10-12 sentences about your life achievements. Start from your earliest achievements up to an age that corresponds to the average age of your class. This activity works well if your class can relate what you share with them in an honest way. Here are some examples:
- By the age of eight I had learnt to ride a bicycle.
- By the age of nine, I was able to get over my fear of the dark.
- I was promoted to play in the top soccer team for my school when I was twelve years old.
- I started to read seriously by the time I reached fifteen.
- At eighteen, I was able to obtain my drivers license after my third attempt.
2. During class ask students to write down the story that you will dictate to them. They should use two different coloured pens to write down the dictation. One colour for sentences that are true for them, and another colour that is not true.
3. Next group learners into groups of four, and ask them to share which of your statement was true to their lives.
4. Run through a few quick question and answer session relating to your own statements. For example "How old were you when you first learnt to ride a bicycle?"
5. Ask students to now write down a few sentences about their own achievements in life. After they have finished, ask them to write them on the board, without correcting their sentences. After everyone has written their sentences, point to incorrect sentences and have students correct them.
