Materials: Four slips of paper for each student with simple/present continuous statements or use our Present Simple and Present Continuous Worksheet.

Objective

In this grammar activity, students sort through slips of paper, reviewing present simple and present continuous statements for errors. You can also make sentences of your own containing these mistakes.

Instructions

1. Group students into teams of 4-5 players and give each group 20 sentence slips (or use the present simple and present continuous worksheet). Tell students that they have 10 minutes to look through the slips and discuss with each other which sentence is right and which is wrong. However they cannot take notes or mark the papers.

2. After 10 minutes, ask learners to place the slips of paper face down. Each student should pick four slips at random, read through the slips. They should keep the slips that are right but put face down the slips that are wrong. They should not engage in discussion or help each other during this process.

3. After the groups have decided, they can display their sentences while you tell them the incorrect slips.
