Objective

In Alphabet Spelling Activity, students must correctly guess and spell a secret word. This is good efl/esl spelling activity that both young and older leaners alike will enjoy.

Instructions

Before class, choose 10-15 spelling words that you want your students to learn. Choose spelling words that can be divided into 3-4 more categories. Write these words on separate cards.

1. Divide the class into pairs or small groups.

2. Select a spelling card at radom, and tell the class what category the word falls under. Next hold up a letter of the alphabet that represents the word.

For example if your category was "winter" and the secret word is "snowflakes" you need to hold up the letter "S".

3. Students try to guess the secret word. If a group correctly guesses the word, they must spell it out correctly. If they correctly spell the word, they win the card. The group with the highest number of cards wins the game.
