Objective

English Revision is an efl/esl vocabulary building activity for reviewing vocabulary. Students uses vocabulary items to construct a sentence, building on it in a meaningful way, until someone does says something wrong and goes out of the game.

Instructions

1. Select a sentence and a few vocabulary items that you would your class to review. Alternatively you can get students to compile a list of words on a certain topic using dictionaries or textbooks. For example, a shopping list and a few present continuous sentences to practice might look like this:

Category: Shopping List

Milk, eggs, bread, apples, bananas, lemons, coffee, tea, soap, toilet paper and detergent.

Present Continuous Sentence Practice

I am going shopping ...
Are you/we/they going to buy ...
He/she/it is buying ...

2. Have learners seated in a round circle. For larger classes, form teams and select a few players from each team to begin the activity.

3. The activity begins when a learner starts with a sentence "I am going shopping to buy some milk!".The next person in line must repeat what the first person said, plus any vocabulary from the preparatory work that comes to mind: "I am going shopping to buy some milk and eggs!", the third person will follow with: "I am going shopping to buy some milk, eggs and toilet paper!" and so on.

Repetition or hestitation is against the rules. If a player hestitates for a few seconds he/she goes out of the game. The activity begins again, but this time a new sentence is choosen - "Are you going to buy that detergent?" and so on. The remaining players, or the team with the most representatives remaining in the circle wins the game.
