Overview

This writing activity require players to write rhyming poems. Players write try to form rhyming poems by basing it on previously written lines which someone else had written.

Instructions

1. In this activity, a volunteer thinks of a pair of rhyming words and writes it down on the board. You can have as many words as you want, but each word should rhyme and should be written in pairs next to each other. Alternatively you can ask the class to contributes an even number of rhyming words.

2. Within a set time limit, say 5 minutes, learners must write a sentences using all the chosen rhyming words. After learners have finished writing their poems, they take turns reading it out to the class.

Example:

The choosen words are "hill", "mill", "may" and "hay".

One day, Jack came up the Hill,
and saw Jill fast asleep in the Mill.

T'was 9 O'clock in May,
That the neighbors cows broke in and ate all of our hay.

Variations

Another variation of this rhyming activity is to have learners work in teams to recite a line of the poem.
