Objective

In this writing activity, learners must write a poem using a given set of words.

Instructions

1. Ask players to contribute pairs of similar sounding words, particularly with the last syllables. Write six of these words on the board.

2. Within a given time frame, players must write a poem using words on the board at the end of a line. The second line must contain a word that rhymes with the first line. After the alloted time, players read aloud their own poems.

Variations

A member of a team asks an opposing team to spell a word backwards. If the other team spells the word correctly they score a point. Start with 3 or 4 letter words, and increase this number after each successive round.
